Dr. Yu Ong grew up in London, England. On his seventh birthday, his parents promised to take him to Chessington, a theme park, but instead they took him to the dentist. This was one of his most unpleasant childhood experiences as he recalls squeezing his brother’s hand, while the dentist drilled and extracted his tooth without any explanation. His dental anxiety waned and appreciation of dentistry began when his parent’s started taking me to see a pediatric dentist. This positive experience had fueled his eventual desire to one day become a pediatric dentist.
After completing secondary school in England, he moved to the Southern California, where he completed his undergraduate education at UC Irvine. Subsequently, he completed a Doctorate of Dental Medicine and Masters in Public Health at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health. Giving back is important to Dr. Ong. He has participated in Give Kids a Smile, Oral Cancer walks, Mission of Mercy events and enjoys the blessing of giving back to others.
To further his expertise, Dr. Ong completed a two year pediatric dental residency at Boston University where he spent time at the Boston Medical Center and Franciscan Children’s Hospital. The program provided him excellent mentorship and hand-on training with sedation dentistry, complex medical conditions in a hospital setting and special needs patients. Likewise, he also taught pediatric dentistry to pre-doctorial students at Boston College.
Following specialty training, Dr. Ong became board certified and practiced in Boston, before deciding to call the Pacific North West his home. Dr. Ong’s philosophy and passion in this field involves placing importance on preventive dentistry and educating parents and children on the importance of oral health. His goal is to provide quality dental care to children in an environment that encompasses compassion and trust. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, cooking, staying active, exploring the outdoors and spending time with family and friends
