What are Dental Fillings?
A dental filling is necessary for teeth that have become decayed. Children are often more susceptible to cavities because of poor oral hygiene and eating habits. To prevent the decay in the tooth from getting worse, it is removed and a filling put in its place. We use tooth-colored fillings in our practice to perfectly blend in with your child’s smile.

Why are Dental Fillings needed?
Dental fillings are typically needed if a cavity is found in one or more teeth. Cavities typically develop as a result of poor oral hygiene and poor eating habits. Because kids are more prone to tooth decay, it’s not uncommon for them to require one or more fillings. The filling helps to replace the decay in the mouth, restoring the tooth completely.

Who is a candidate for Dental Fillings?
With a simple dental exam, Dr. Ong can determine if your child has a cavity. If a cavity is found, it is best that they undergo treatment as soon as possible to prevent the decay from getting worse. These fillings can easily last for many years and provide your child or teen with a beautiful smile. Fillings are made out of tooth-colored composite resin that blends in well with the rest of their teeth.

What happens during the Dental Filling procedure?
We first numb the area to improve your child’s comfort during the procedure. Dr. Ong then removes the decay from the tooth. The tiny hole left behind is prepped for the filling. The composite resin material is placed and smoothed out. The filling is cured into place with a bright light that is safe and used in many other dental procedures. Your child will then be ready to head home with their brand new filling in place. Older and worn fillings may need to be replaced over time, and the procedure is similar to having to place them initially.

If your child needs a filling, call us today so that we can get you in for an appointment as soon as possible.
